Building & Construction Trades Department
The Building and Construction Trades Department (BCTD), AFL-CIO, represents 15 international and national unions, over 6,000 local unions with more than 3 million members. The Building Trades were responsible for raising the necessary funds to construct a new state-of-the-art research facility for the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI). To date, over $33 million has been raised for diabetes research – with $17 million from DAD’s Day and the hardworking members of the building and construction trades unions. This international center was built 100% union and opened in February 1994 so that DRI could accelerate its efforts for finding a cure.
